I left February 15 and we came home March 1. We made it to the base of the Mealy Mountains. The weather has changed a lot and the snow is very soft. To go up the mountain you have to cross back and forth over a stream and there were a lot of holes. It would have been very dangerous for the children. We didn’t have too many helpers either. The spring Snowshoe walk just began on Wednesday, Feb. 16. Because of the snow, the group started a day later due to lack of visibility across the lake. Here are some photos from the first day. We went to my daughter's cabin after Christmas with my good friend Teresa Andrew. There were 5 of us there, including on of my grandson's. When I think about Innu life before the government came here, I remember it was a good life—the children were happy, we were all strong and happy. Innu people always used tents. There were no houses or schools. We did have a hospital in Northwest River and a small school in Sheshatshui very close to the church, but we didn’t use them very much because the people were always going to the bush.
